Paint it forward: Westfield connects art and students to inspire a greener world
From May 18th to May 20th, renowned Brooklyn artist Chuck Webster, known for his narrative abstract painting and drawings, worked with local art students at Westfield Garden State Plaza (GSP) in the creation of a 24 x 12 foot collaborative mural painting inspired by Westfield’s Refashion the Future apparel recycling program.
During the three days of painting, the students from the local One River School of Art + Design (located just west of New York City) assisted and learned trade techniques directly from the artist, while GSP shoppers stopped in to watch both artist and students create this unique piece dedicated to environmental sustainability.
By empowering artists to work alongside neighborhood residents, collaborative mural programs continue to stimulate conversation about critical causes, act as a platform for activism and philanthropy, and strengthen community ties.
