Westfield has today welcomed the decision of the Auckland Council to approve the plan change for the rezoning of its St Lukes land holdings.

Westfield Director Justin Lynch said, “We are pleased that the Auckland Council endorsed the recommendation of the independent commissioners, and in particular Westfield supports the stance taken by Auckland City Mayor, Mr. Len Brown.

“The plan change is merely a very first step in future planning for the use of Westfield’s landholdings at St Lukes. At this stage there is no time frame for the commencement of any development works at the centre. Any future development at the centre will require Resource Consent for any specific plans,” he said.

The proposed plan change was publicly notified in April this year culminating in a two week public hearing in June where evidence was heard from all concerned, including local residents, before three experienced Council selected independent commissioners.

The report of the commissioners supported Westfield’s re-zoning, as did subsequent advice to Council from Council Officers and Council’s senior legal counsel and external lawyers in advance of today’s meeting.
